Brazil launches new and more comprehensive emissions calculation model

Brazil’s INPE (National Institute for Space Research) has a new Emissions Model that considers processes related to deforestation and subsequent activities in logged areas, such as agriculture and livestock, and also other processes linked to the removal of forest mass, such as logging, fire used to remove plant debris, decomposition of soil organic matter and secondary vegetation growth. This reduces the amount of emissions reduction in the Amazon between 2004 and 2011 from 64% to 57%, but is claimed to be more representative.
